This is an introduction to harvesting edible seaweed as well as other seafood available. As well as that we will discover how harvest seaweed save and sustainably. We will also learn about ecology and living with the Rhythm of the Sea in general.
The Coast has been vital for our ancestors since thousands of years. Dive deep into the past on this unique experience between Land and Sea. Learn how to read the sea, the tides, the waves and how our ancestors used birds to navigate potent areas for food. Walking on a submerged 5.000 year old forest we will head out to discover Seaweeds and edible shellfish. If we are lucky we will even have a chance to walk in Dinosaur footprints petrified in stone since 24 million years.
A unique place I call home, therefore I will showcase harvesting methods focusing on sustainability and regeneration. I will also demonstrate how our ancestors used to fish for food with handmade longlines made out of native fibres.
We will meet at the arranged time and location, and set out the timetable for the session ahead. We will then discuss in detail, safety, tides, legal aspects of coastal foraging.
For the next few hours, we will forage for our wild delicacies. If circumstance permit, we'll endeavour to cook some of our discoveries so that you can appreciate the flavours of the coast.
Be prepared: On arrival, please ensure that you are dressed for prevailing weather conditions, Sun screen, water and robust footwear that can get wet.
We will walk on Rocks that are uneven and slippery.
